Cypress Avenue, the site began as a prep kitchen for the founders’ pioneering taco truck (launched in 1974 by Mexican immigrants Raul and Maria Martinez). It helped popularize authentic soft street tacos, burritos with rice and beans, and fresh on-site cooking—shaping LA’s modern food truck and taqueria culture. The Cultural Heritage Commission unanimously supported designating it a Historic-Cultural Monument, which would protect the building and honor its role in Latino immigrant entrepreneurship and the city’s culinary history. The family-owned chain now has over two dozen locations across LA and San Bernardino counties. Final approval is expected after administrative reviews, potentially by summer 2026.
