Here’s the simplest explanation of the most important concepts that are often asked repeatedly.
• Docker vs Kubernetes
→ Docker packages applications
→ Kubernetes manages and scales them
• Container vs Pod
→ Containers run applications
→ Pods group containers inside Kubernetes
• CI vs CD
→ CI tests and builds code
→ CD deploys it to production
• Horizontal vs Vertical Scaling
→ Horizontal adds more servers
→ Vertical increases server power
• REST vs gRPC
→ REST works great for web APIs
→ gRPC is optimized for backend communication
• Terraform vs Ansible
→ Terraform creates infrastructure
→ Ansible configures software
• Logging vs Monitoring
→ Logging tracks events
→ Monitoring tracks system health
• Stateless vs Stateful Apps
→ Stateless apps don’t remember requests
→ Stateful apps store session/data history

The reel gives you the mental model. Here’s what I skipped for time:
→ API Server (the waiter)
The front door of Kubernetes. Every request goes through it — from you, kubectl, controllers, everything. It validates requests and acts as the control plane entrypoint.
→ etcd (the order book)
A distributed key-value store holding cluster state: pods, nodes, configs, secrets.
Lose etcd, lose the cluster.
That’s why production setups run 3 or 5 replicas for high availability.
→ Scheduler (the head chef)
It doesn’t run your app.
It decides where your pod should run based on CPU, memory, affinity, taints, and constraints — then hands it off.
→ Kubelet (the cook)
Runs on every worker node.
Pulls images, starts containers, checks health, and reports back to the control plane.
→ Container Runtime (the stove)
The software actually running containers.
Usually containerd today.
Docker was the original standard, but Kubernetes moved toward container-native runtimes.
→ Controller Manager (the floor manager)
This is Kubernetes philosophy in one loop:
Observe current state
→ Compare to desired state
→ Fix the gap
That’s reconciliation.
One thing I skipped in the reel:
→ kube-proxy (the food runner)
Routes traffic to the right pod by managing networking rules on each node.

Why “self-healing” is a big deal
Pod dies
→ Controller notices
→ New pod gets scheduled
→ Kubelet starts it
No human involved.
That’s how companies like Netflix, Spotify and Airbnb run thousands of services without babysitting infrastructure.

Kubernetes keeps your app alive even when containers keep crashing. Here's how self-healing actually works.
Kill a pod and it comes right back. That's not magic, it's the control plane doing one job on a loop: compare what's RUNNING vs what you DESIRED (3 pods), and if one goes DOWN, reschedule a fresh one. Downtime stays near zero because the rebuild starts the instant a pod dies.
The "crash monkey" here is every real cause of pod death: OOM kills, failed nodes, bad deploys, crashed processes. Kubernetes doesn't stop the crashes. It just makes them boring.
Use it when production containers can't go down: APIs, payment services, anything with an SLA.
Kubernetes = desired state + self-healing, on repeat.
