Visiting info below ⬇️ Japan’s first national competition for a large-scale conference center led to this project by Sachio Otani, completed in 1966. The design is based on a clear geometric system (mainly triangles and trapezoids) that repeats throughout the entire building. It’s visible in the façade, but also continues inside, where angled walls, sloped columns and ceiling lines all follow the same logic. These forms reference traditional elements like shrine rooflines and the surrounding mountain silhouettes, translated into a modern concrete structure rather than directly imitated. Inside, the spaces feel structured but not overly heavy. Wood finishes and furniture by Isamu Kenmochi soften the geometry and make the interiors more balanced. The building is also carefully positioned within its setting near Takaragaike, designed to respond to the surrounding landscape instead of standing apart from it. 📍ICC Kyoto ‼️Indoors and pond view only accessible during Open Days Open days are announced each month on the official website of @icckyoto Tours can be booked but they book out very quickly. Open days allow for visits even without a tour reservation. If you go when there isn’t an open day, you can only see the front view of the building (first 2 shots) and maybe take a peek at the long entrance hall. 🚃 Accessible via train (Kokusaikaikan St) - 20 mins from Kyoto St
