It was named as such by winning the Prix Versailles @prixversailles museum prize in 2025, presented with UNESCO 🏆
The @kunstsilo is a former grain silo on the southern coast of Norway in the city of Kristiansand. This is a monumental building from 1935 which has been transformed into a beautiful home for the world’s largest collection of Nordic modernism art 🇳🇴
What I love most is the vast open central atrium, created by removing thousands of tonnes of concrete from the original grain stores. Looking up, it’s like being in a cathedral building 😲
It’s a magical space — and one that’s surprisingly easy to get to from Britain. You can fly via Amsterdam or Oslo ✈️
Head there soon: they’ve just opened a fab exhibition — titled Between Dreams and Reality — that explores how Nordic artists embraced surrealism and expressionism 🎨

KunstSilo - Art Silo - Norway’s newest Art and Architecture destination is finally open in Kristiansand!
Grains moved out - Art moved in!
It took over 7 years to transform a listed grain silo into an Art and Creativity space
The Silo has the world’s largest collection of Nordic Modernism in the world - the Tangen Collection - a gift from a Norwegian hedge fund manager Nicolai Tangen
Plan at least 3 hours to explore the art and don’t forget to visit the rooftop to take in the views and to reflect over your experience
We are delighted to share that @kunstsilo has been awarded the 2025 Spanish Architecture Award, by the Spanish Architects’ Council (@cscae ).
“The Kunstsilo building is the outcome of an extremely delicate architectural exercise. It has understood the behaviour of the concrete volumes to infuse them with a new soul: a Cathedral space.
It is an intimate sanctuary that overcomes the austere Nordic heritage of its genesis, through exceptional mastery in the handling of light, exquisite care in its materials and a noble openness towards the harbour extension. It gives a building a second chance, respecting its past and incorporating its surroundings into its new public function, and in so doing, Kunstsilo transcends its function as a cultural beacon and worldwide landmark.”

From Oslo to London – and now Kristiansand. Works from the MUNCH collection are on view in the Edvard Munch Portraits exhibition at Kunstsilo (@kunstsilo) 🧑🎨
First shown at the National Portrait Gallery (@nationalportraitgallery) in spring 2025, it was the first UK exhibition dedicated to this important – and often overlooked – side of Munch’s practice.
Now, as Kunstsilo brings the exhibition to Norway, it offers audiences a slightly different perspective on the artist we’re used to seeing – highlighting Munch as a sharp observer of himself and the people around him.
