The Management of Kwara State Polytechnic has suspended a lecturer captured in a viral video allegedly caning candidates on campus.
In a statement issued by the institution's Public Relations Officer, Halimat Garba, the affected individuals were identified as Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) candidates who reportedly arrived late for their ongoing examination, and not regular students of the polytechnic.
The institution strongly condemned the lecturer's conduct, stressing that corporal punishment and all forms of violence have no place within its academic environment. Management emphasized that discipline should be enforced through lawful, respectful, and constructive measures that uphold the dignity of students.
Following the incident, the lecturer has been relieved of all academic responsibilities pending the outcome of a comprehensive investigation.
Kwara State Polytechnic further reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining high ethical standards and fostering a safe, supportive learning environment. The institution also disclosed that additional measures are being considered to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents in the future.
