A blue-green algae bloom spotted at Lake Allatoona near Red Top Mountain Park Marina is prompting a warning from the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority.
Officials say the bloom can produce toxins that may cause health problems and increase the risk of neurodegenerative diseases. If you spot a greenish, teal or reddish tint in the water with an earthy odor, stay out. Drinking water has not been impacted.
