Word of the Day: 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 Pronunciation: lat-IB-yuh-layt 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗯: To hide or seek refuge, often as a way of protecting oneself from external threats or finding solace in a safe space. Etymology: Latibulate originates from the Latin word latibulum, meaning “a hiding place.” First appearing in English in the 17th century, it described the instinctual need to retreat and find shelter, whether in nature or within oneself, to weather life’s storms. Latibulating is not just about finding refuge—it’s about recognizing the importance of rest as preparation for what’s ahead. As we approach 2025, with its goals and ambitions waiting on the horizon, now is the time to pause, reflect, and recharge. Rest is not idle; it’s purposeful, laying the foundation for the hard work and growth that lie ahead. So, when you feel the pull to retreat, remember: you’re not stepping away; you’re gathering strength. Take this time to latibulate, to restore your energy and focus—because 2025 is calling, and there’s much work to do. #WOD #WordOfTheDay #Latibulate
I came across this audio and now you’ll frequently hear me saying how I’m going to latibulate in my old Land Rover… The cab feels like a safe space, and if real life gets heavy, a trip out in my Defender along country lanes is the best way to decompress 💚💚 Amelia x #wordoftheday #latibulate #landrover #defender

𝙇𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙗𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚 (verb) la-tib-oo-layt.  "𝘛𝘰 𝘩𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺." ( 17th century dialect) This lovely word, like so many, stems from Latin, where a hiding place is a latibulum.  You may even like to tell people that you are withdrawing to your latibulum and they should take care not to bother you. . . Hiding, squashing, or "putting a mask on" - when the way you present, isn't actually the way you feel. Putting on a happy face, when you're stricken with grief, or appearing as though you are 'coping' when all you want to do is latibulate (see our word of the day last week!). We all do this, or feel we need to do this at one point or another, but it comes at a cost to your energy bucket, and it is exhausting.  🌸Allow yourself the time and space to connect with those feelings and emotions - the big, the heavy and the scary, cry it out, journal it out, or talk it out with people you do not need to wear the mask with - a trusted friend, a partner, or maybe even a psychologist. Hold space for it, and when you do, hold yourself tightly with compassion and grace. 🌸 If you are having a difficult time making sense of those big feelings, why not check out our "Understanding Big Feelings" course.
