🇵🇹 This is Martim Moniz, Portugal’s most controversial neighbourhood. Right in the centre of Lisbon, this place is now known as Little India because of the huge influx of South Asians who now outnumber the locals. Hindi and Bengali are more common here than Portuguese. Crime is high. Homelessness is everywhere. And open drug use happens in the middle of the day. Many Portuguese people avoid this area now, and it is a sensitive topic for many reasons. But like anywhere in the world, most people here are good. Martim Moniz is full of culture, interesting food, and people with real stories. You see things from around the world that you normally never would. Some say it is dangerous. Some say it is misunderstood. Some want the old Martim Moniz back, and others are happy with how it is.
