The Long Beach community will gather this Saturday, April 5th to celebrate the life of Gerrin Hagen at the 3rd Annual Gerrin Hagen Memorial Hockey Day to benefit the G2H Foundation. In the spirit of kindness, compassion, and friendship that defined Gerrin’s life, the Hagen Family founded the G2H Foundation which supports school, sports, and service scholarships, community-based charities, families in need, and first responder related charitable causes. We spoke with Gerrin's father, Chris Hagen, about Gerrin, G2H, and the amazing support the Foundation has received from the Long Beach community. You can be a part of this wonderful event by coming out to the Ice Arena this Saturday. Come see the Nassau County Police Department take on the New York City Fire Department Hockey Team at 2:30pm. Watch the Massachusetts State Police Hockey Team take on the Long Beach Guardians Hockey Club at 5:00pm. The G2H Foundation is overwhelmed with gratitude for all who came out for the 4th Annual Gerrin Hagen Memorial Hockey Day. The Emile Francis Memorial Ice Arena at the City of Long Beach was once again at maximum capacity. The barn was packed! A special thank you to the City of Long Beach and all of our hardworking volunteers who were instrumental in making this event so special and successful. Your dedication and effort ensured a day full of excitement and community. We deeply appreciate the participation of the Nassau County Police Department Hockey Team, FDNY Hockey Team, Toronto Fire Club Hockey Team, and the Long Beach Guardians, whose thrilling performances elevated the day’s excitement. We are incredibly lucky to have their support. Our heartfelt thanks also go to all our sponsors, local businesses, dedicated volunteers, residents, family and friends for their incredible support and generosity. You are the backbone of our event. Long Beach, you have shown up once again and demonstrated our strength and unity. Long Beach is such a special place to live, our community is exceptional. Together we will honor Gerrin’s true spirit of kindness, compassion and friendship. Raffles, 50/50, Chuck A Puck, Bubble Ball Races, Face Painting and more! Two exciting games will be played this year, at 2:30 PM the Nassau County Police Department Hockey Team will take on the FDNY Hockey Team and at 5:00 PM the Toronto Fire Hockey Club will face The Long Beach Guardians. The games will be live streamed by Long Island Sports Network. Doors open at 1pm! #livelikegerrin @g2hfoundation

Being part of any team is such a gift. As much as I swore I wouldn't be one of those parents who travels all over the east coast... spending our last dime... it was worth every second - every dime and allowed us to meet families like The Hagen's. When you are part of a team - you hurt when they hurt and you LOVE hard. I told my son this week to consider himself fortunate to hurt so bad - it only means you loved so hard - something some people will never have the opportunity to feel - An example is Jacks teammates below praying with him after his game on Monday. What we experienced this week in our community and beyond was beautiful & heartbreaking. We learned we can all do better and make Gerrin live on by celebrating his life, harnessing goodness and love and sharing it with the world. Just like Gerrin did.
