When the new Recycling and Waste Services start in June 2026, you'll be able to recycle your food waste via a brand new weekly food waste collection service. Here's how it will work. @eastsuffolkcouncil @westsuffolkcouncil @ipswichgov @baberghsuffolk @midsuffolk
Recycling your food waste has never been simpler.
Collected alongside your regular bins, our new food waste service empties your bins from the kerbside, meaning all you need to do is put it out the night before.

🙋♂️ Did you know... 4.6 million tonnes of good to eat food is wasted by the UK food industry every year, enough for 10 billion meals! This Food Waste Action Week, you can take action to reduce waste and save money on your weekly shop.
So here is how you can make a difference and it only takes a few minutes to start creating real impact! You can join your local community larder who work with FareShare and local supermarkets to rescue good quality surplus food that would otherwise go to waste.
Each week, you can pop in, meet friendly faces from your community, enjoy a warm cuppa and pick up a mix of food and non food items - all while stretching your budget.
🥑 For only £4.50 a week, you can choose up to 14 items, and bag yourself a shopping bag worth up to £15! That is one simple way to reduce waste, support your community and cut the cost of your weekly shop all at the same time. 😄
Take action this week and join via the link in our bio. Save food. Save money. Support your community.
A food waste collection scheme will be piloted in areas of the borough from the end of April, with ten thousand households taking part.
Residents in the selected areas will be notified by letter before receiving their indoor and outdoor caddies to place their food waste in.
Separating food waste from other rubbish means household waste bins are cleaner, do not smell as much, and results in less being sent to the local incinerator.
♻️ Food waste liners - any bag will do!
Once your starter pack of liners run out, there are plenty of everyday items you can reuse to line your food waste caddy at home, such as:
• 🛍️ Takeaway bags
• 🍞 Bread bags
• 🥗 Fruit & veg packaging
• 🍟 Multipack crisp packets
• 📦 Carrier bags
These work just as well to keep your caddy clean - and help reduce waste at the same time.
⚠️ And remember - you don't need to use any bag at all! Food waste can go directly into your caddy without a bag, if preferred.
Please avoid using black or very dark bags - these can’t be processed correctly at the recycling centre.
🚚 We're still delivering caddies across the borough, so don't worry if yours hasn't arrived yet. All deliveries should be complete by 21 March.

Thank you for doing your bit to recycle right and reduce waste across the borough! 💚♻️
Food waste collections are coming! 😀
🥑 🍌 🍕 🥦
This service will separate food waste from general waste. The outside bins are lockable to make sure the foxes and gulls can't get into it! 🐦⬛🦊
Using this service helps our environment by:
♻️ Reducing the amount of waste incinerated
♻️ Creating compost to help feed our soil 🌱
♻️ Removing tempting food for bin-raiders
Bins are being rolled out and collections will start in April.

Introducing the new addition for 40,000 households in Exeter… our food waste recycling bin!
Food waste in our recycling bins is turned into agricultural soil improver and fertiliser, and used for electricity generation across Devon 🧑🌾 💚
Weekly food waste collections will begin in some parts of the borough from 20 April. This major change will help residents recycle more, reduce what goes to incineration, and turn leftovers into something genuinely useful.
Torridge District Council is supporting Food Waste Action Week, which is running from 9th - 15th March 2026. 🍗🫛
This year, the theme is 'Make Your Food Go Fuuuuuuuurther: for your pocket, for our planet'.
By preventing food waste, using up leftovers, and recycling anything that can’t be eaten, we can unlock more value from the food we already have by helping it to stretch further.
