LISTEN: According to the National TB Recovery Plan (2025–2026), TB remains a major public health crisis in South Africa. The country is still among the top 30 high-burden nations for TB, TB linked to HIV, and drug-resistant TB, contributing significantly to the global TB crisis. In 2023 alone, an estimated 270,000 people developed TB, with around 13,000 cases (5%) classified as drug-resistant. This #WorldTBDay, our fellow Sobabini Mapipa, a pharmacist and public health advocate who survived TB, says, “Ending TB is possible. It requires leadership that prioritises health equity and people-centred systems that serve those most affected.” Remember to join us at the #HumanRightsFestival at Constitution Hill from 26–29 March 2026.
