Machine Head made one of the heaviest comebacks in metal history - after their own label dropped them. 🤘 After 2001's ""Supercharger"" flopped, Roadrunner Records cut them loose in the US. So Robb Flynn and the band self-funded ""Through the Ashes of Empires"" - a full return to their heaviest sound, zero label input. It leaked online, the buzz got too loud to ignore, and Roadrunner re-signed them. Four years later: ""The Blackening"" - one of the most acclaimed metal albums of the 2000s. The comeback started the moment they stopped chasing trends. 👆 Which lesson matters most for your band right now? A) Building a system bigger than any one person B) Committing hard to one unmistakable identity C) Handling backlash without folding D) Doing the unglamorous work nobody sees Drop your letter below 👇 . Bush carried alternative rock into the late 90s Bush — “Machinehead” | Sixteen Stone (released December 6, 1994) Live at Woodstock ’99 — Rome, New York | July 24, 1999 By the time Bush played Woodstock ’99, a lot of the bands that defined the early 90s alternative explosion were gone, broken up, or slowing down. Nirvana had ended in 1994. Soundgarden split in 1997. Alice in Chains had largely disappeared from the road. Meanwhile Bush was still filling arenas and putting songs on rock radio. What’s interesting is that critics spent most of the decade attacking Bush. They were called grunge copycats, accused of chasing trends, and rarely got the same respect as Seattle bands. None of that seemed to matter to the public. Sixteen Stone sold over six million copies in the United States alone and songs like “Machinehead,” “Comedown,” “Glycerine,” and “Swallowed” stayed in rotation for years. Woodstock ‘99 is remembered for everything that happened around the music. Extreme heat. Overcrowding. Water selling for ridiculous prices. Fires. Riots. But before the festival completely unraveled, bands like Bush were playing to some of the largest rock crowds of the decade. Looking back now, it’s one of the last snapshots of alternative rock before nu metal and post-grunge completely took over the mainstream. The critics never really embraced Bush. Millions of listeners did. — #Bush #Machinehead #Woodstock99 #AlternativeRock #90sRock
