🚙 What becomes possible when transportation isn’t a barrier? A new job. School events. Family dinners. Medical appointments. Spontaneous outings. A wheelchair-accessible van doesn’t just provide a ride, it restores independence, connection, and confidence. It allows families to say “yes” more often and stress less about logistics. Everyone deserves the freedom to show up to participate in their own life. This Disability Awareness Month, we humbly ask for donations for more vans, as we have many people with disabilities needing a wheelchair van on our waitlist. ♿️ Can you believe over 28% of adults in the U.S. live with a disability? That’s more than 70 million people: our neighbors, coworkers, friends, and family members.*CDC Disability is more common than many realize, and access to spaces or opportunities shouldn’t be rare. Accessibility isn’t a “special feature,” and it benefits everyone. It’s curb ramps, wheelchair-accessible buildings, inclusive workplaces, adaptive technology, and transportation that don’t leave anyone behind. When spaces aren’t accessible, people are excluded. 😓 For many, stairs are just a small inconvenience. But for someone using a wheelchair, they can be a triggering experience and a formidable barrier that turns life into a real struggle. No one should have to “strong-arm” their way into spaces others enter freely. Accessibility is a basic human need. Ramps, elevators, and wheelchair-accessible vans create accessibility, and we need to continue advocating for them. 🚙 Visit our website in bio👆 to learn more about our mission to support accessibility by providing wheelchair-accessible vans for people who cannot afford them. One thing RJ really appreciates about having a wheelchair van is the flexibility it provides, the option to use either a manual wheelchair or a power wheelchair depending on the day. That flexibility has opened up a lot more freedom in RJ’s everyday activities. As you can see in the video, RJ’s manual wheelchair is much easier to maneuver inside the van and can be locked in place quickly. Having a ramp also means RJ doesn’t have to take the chair apart multiple times a day, which makes daily travel much more convenient. There are a few downsides to having a van. The ramp can sometimes be finicky, the power seat has blown a fuse before, and because of the lowered floor you can’t go through car washes. Only certain tire shops are able to lift the van properly, and wheelchair vans can be very expensive. For RJ, buying second-hand and having a trusted mechanic has been the best solution. “We need more disabled parking!” 🔥 Shoutout to Tara for highlighting why accessible parking matters — and how different wheelchair users have unique needs, like the often-overlooked ‘access aisles’ (those hashed spaces next to disabled parking spaces). Let’s push for more inclusive parking! ♿ Do you use disabled parking spaces? 🤔 Let us know in the comments! 🎥: @tara_shett #Permobil #InnovatingForIndividuals #DisabledParking

This was a hard decision for us.. The two types of wheelchair vans: Rear entry and side entry. Rear entry is cheaper, simpler, and involves less turning. It makes it easier to park in standard spaces, and offer more interior room for large chairs. The side-entry vehicle has a lowered-floor conversion, allowing for more headspace for comfortably fitting a passenger in a wheelchair into the vehicle. Side-entry vehicles typically have removable front seats, allowing the wheelchair user to ride in the front passenger spot or actually drive the van. Side entry has powered ramps and more flexible seating. For us, we asked my ATP and his co worker. Both previously worked with adaptive vans. They immediately said side entry was better. The power ramp and kneeling feature would be better for us. Additionally, exiting the vehicle into direct traffic is dangerous and would not work for us. The van we wanted (Toyota sienna platinum) also only came in side entry. Originally, we wanted rear entry, but after lots of research and talking with people, we chose side. It’s a very personal decision. What kind does everyone else have? #disability #wheelchair #fyp #trendingreels #medicallycomplex
