Since I’ve found so much beauty and inspiration in my travels around the world, I am excited to explore where this can lead me musically.
I’ll start with a number of small performances from different cities in a series which I call “echoes of cities”. I will perform either an improvisation, or a song which reflects on my impressions about that particular environment and ambiance. Here is the first performance of this series, from Chania. Crete has a very dynamic vibe in my imagination, however, it contains some sad, melancholic textures as well. Especially for Turkish visitors… When I was in Chania, I saw plenty of shops/restaurants with Turkish names; some provided anecdotes about how they had gathered that traditional recipe from a Turkish person before the population exchange. I was trying to imagine those days were the Greek and Turkish people were living there together in peace, being creative and beautiful together…I guess I intend to express all those emotions and impressions in this small improvisation.
Especially in these difficult days, where - in another part of the world - a similar kind of complicated relationship is affected by war, I just hope and stand for peace! The world is a much more beautiful place when we manage to use our power to create beautiful things together!
