The large fire that broke out at a metal scrapyard in Kalamazoo Monday evening released irritating particles into the air, but they soon dispersed, city officials say. The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says crews were sent to Kalamazoo Metal Recyclers on Kings Highway near Upjohn Avenue around 7:35 p.m. By the time firefighters arrived, they found "heavy flames and thick smoke" coming from a pile of scrap metal. Officials say air quality has returned to normal after concerns about the heavy smoke. Link in bio.
