💚 Even the most powerful predators need a moment of calm. The way this mantis wiped away the morning dew made me realize how even the fiercest creatures take time to care for themselves, finding peace in the quiet moments before the day begins.✨💚 🌞 Natural light 🌈 Background: Natural 🔭 @benroesp : Cyanbird 🐞🐝🐛🪲 Always live insects in the field 🌸🍂🌿 . . . #mantodea #prayingmantis #mantis#insectos #biodiversity #entomology #insectsofinstagram #macro #bichos #bugs #wildlife #entomology #bugsofinstagram #macrophotography #insectes #insetos #insecto #insect #insects #biology

Did you know some mantids can actually produce sounds? This is an adult female of Idolomantis diabolica, the giant devils flower mantis. They have one of the most impressive threat poses of any mantis but not only does it look impressive, it is also augmented by clicking and hissing, which the mantis produces by rubbing its forewings against each other and against the abdomen. I do feel kinda bad for annoying her though... #idolomantisdiabolica #idolomantis #mantis #prayingmantis #mantodea #invert #invertebrates #insect #bugs #buglife #buglove #macro #macrophotography

🩷👽 Like a messenger from another galaxy, she appears draped in soft pink tones 👽🩷 majestic yet serene, as if carrying the calm of the universe and the mystery of worlds beyond. 🪐💫 Empusa pennata, commonly known as the conehead mantis, is native to Spain, southern Europe and parts of Africa. September and October are the perfect months to encounter empusas, mantises, and many other wonders of this kind.🩷 🐞🐝🐛🪲 Always live insects in the field 🌸🍂🌿 . . . #empusapennata #empusa #mantodea #prayingmantis #mantis#insectos #biodiversity #entomology #insectsofinstagram #macro #bichos #bugs #bugsofinstagram #macrophotography #insectphotography #insectes #insetos #insecto #insect #insects #biology #wildlife #earthcapture #nature

Toxodera integrifolia are growing faster! This time we have more females than last year! ❤️💛❤️ #wildinsects #insectsofinstagram #toxoderaintegrifolia #mantodea

Mantises are some of my favorite animals. I grew up up raising them and feeding them other bugs and have always been just overwhelmed by how beautiful they are.. this mantis is Empusa pennata — there are various Empusa species around the Mediterranean. (Somehow this looks like an insect that you would find in the rainforest, I was surprised to learn that this one is from Spain!) Praying mantises have only one ear, located on their chest — yet it’s sensitive enough to detect the ultrasonic sounds of bats in flight. 🍎🍂 In my autumn garden, a green mantis and a brown mantis wander together through the grass, clinging to one another as they climb past a yellow pear and a red apple. Their quiet journey unfolds like a living scene from nature’s play, framed by warm colors of the season. For me, these encounters are a reminder that nature is both delicate and powerful — a source of peace, wonder, and endless inspiration. ✨ #prayingmantis #insects #mantodea #mantis #wildlife #entomology #bugsofinstagram

💚 This mantis probably fought a battle I’ll never know, losing one antenna and half of the other😔 Antennae are incredibly important — not only for balance, but also as sensitive tools to detect movement, vibrations, and even smells. 🌱 And still, she moves with such grace, gently cleaning herself in the morning light. 🥹 These are the moments that make me fall in love again and again with photographing and filming these little creatures. ✨💚 Gear used: OM-1 Mark II + Zuiko 90mm f/3.5 Macro IS PRO + Benro tripod 🎥📸 @omsystem.es @omsystem.cameras @benroesp Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend ☮️ 🫶🏻 🐞🐝🐛🪲 Always live insects in the field 🌸🍂🌿 . . . #mantis #prayingmantis #mantodea #prayingmantis #mantis #insectos #biodiversity #entomology #insectsofinstagram #macro #bichos #bugs #bugsofinstagram #macrophotography #insectphotography #insectes #insetos #insecto #insect #insects #biology #wildlife #earthcapture #nature #entomology

You would never guess this isn't a stick insect but a praying mantis until you looked at its head and front legs. This is Macrodanuria elongata, a species of twig mimicking mantis from tropical West Africa. It's supposed to reach a length of 17cm, making it one of the longest mantises in the world, easily eclipsing the likes of Heterochaeta orientalis, which only reaches about 14cm. I'm a bit skeptical of these claims but I guess we'll see! The one shown here has 2 molts left to go. I have a group of 8 and despite being very rare in the hobby and only very recently introduced they're pretty easy and fast growing. #macrodanuria #danuria #mantis #mantisgram #prayingmantis #mantodea #invert #insect #macro #macrophotography #buglove #bugs
