Notes: This cool-growing orchid hybrid has done well in my intermediate growing conditions! The flowers have no fragrance, but I love the color and number you can get with these—it has been in spike or bloom for months, and several more are on the way!

Meet the Masdevallia caesia f. xanthina, an exceptionally rare and sought-after orchid! Unlike its species, which is known for its grayish tones, this unique genetic form dazzles with vibrant yellow flowers. To keep it happy, it requires very specific care: it needs very low, indirect light, cool temperatures that drop significantly at night (from 15-21°C to 7-13°C), extremely high humidity (above 80%), and consistent watering so its substrate never dries out. This is a spectacular orchid!

Brought a friend into the shop today! My personal Dracula orchid is blooming for the first time in 5 months, so I thought I’d take her on a field trip and show her off to customers today! While we don’t have any Dracula orchids currently for sale in the shop we do have STUNNING Masdevallia and we should be getting more Dracula orchids throughout the summer 🥰
Dracula orchids are happy to grow indoors or outdoors in the cool Mediterranean climate we have in San Francisco. They love the fog and hate it when temps get above 80 degrees, especially at night. The perfect consolation plant for when you get annoyed at the fog!!

After months of trial and error, here is the final configuration. The pots were great for photographic plants, but they were easily tipped over by my sprayer and the racks to hold them took up too much space. I decided to go back to using mounts for the smallest plants. I'll be updating my website with all the details this week.
