A few years ago we rented a car and drove from Zurich to St. Moritz.
This was actually a total accident.
We had booked the Glacier Express… and completely missed it. 😅
Driving suddenly became the only option.
At the time it felt like a disaster.
But it turned out to be one of the most spectacular drives ever.
The views through the Alps…
The tiny villages along the way…
And the beauty of St. Moritz — absolutely breathtaking.
Somewhere along that drive we decided to visit Liechtenstein, this tiny country tucked between Switzerland and Austria that many travelers don’t even realize exists.
And that’s where this happened.
The Sareis chairlift in Malbun.
At the time it seemed like a great idea… until we were halfway up the mountain realizing we were basically sitting on an open chair floating above the Alps in freezing temperatures. 😂
But honestly? The views were worth every second.
About the Sareis Chairlift
The Sareis chairlift is one of the main attractions in Malbun and operates year-round (except during maintenance closures).
In about 10 minutes, the lift transports visitors up to 2,000 meters above sea level, offering incredible panoramic views of the Alps and surrounding valleys.
At the top you’ll find:
• Access to scenic hiking routes like the Fürstin-Gina Trail
• Stunning alpine viewpoints
• A mountain restaurant with a sun terrace where you can relax and take in the scenery
Even if you’re not skiing, the chairlift ride alone is worth the experience.
