Fight or flight is real. We don’t have to be doing this. It’s easy to see how folks drop out. Next Level Chef was a traumatic event. Not like life or death. But we were out there giving our all knowing that we would show all of this on national tv. No hiding it. No shortcuts it is all here. I wrote about it in my journal. Here is a page from my first episode which would have been last weeks. We did not get to see what the pros did. We just knew the next morning who was not at breakfast. Taken away in the night like some episode of traitors. Three gone. Would I be be next. That is stressful. I was 54 in pretty good shape. Spend lots of time doing unchosen things so I’m ready when I need to do something I don’t really want to do. Thanks for the support and I appreciate you. I’m gonna….. just cook. Wow what an experience….. You’re never too old to chase a dream. You just have to be willing to take a chance — and sometimes be willing to fail. But I’ve learned this: it’s only failure if you don’t learn something from it. I was eliminated from Next Level Chef last night, and I’m honestly grateful, humbled, and inspired. It came down to a split decision among incredible judges, and that’s competition. What an amazing opportunity this has been. I knew going in it would challenge me — stepping far outside my comfort zone, away from family, competing with talented chefs from all over. And it truly became one of the greatest experiences of my life. Stressful? Absolutely. Worth it? Without question. Thank you all for the love and support. Thank you to Rhonda, my kids, and family for holding things down and running MaD Seasoning while I was away. ❤️ Now it’s time to pour even more into the dream — helping folks make better tasting food, bringing more people around the table, and making a difference however we can. This chapter was special. When I first started recording videos it was to show my grandkids and great grandkids what there PaPaw did. So I just started recording them. Then I started Mattdad and it made sense to make more. I’m the mattdad and I love eating what I make. Man I am so blessed even when it is hot. Let’s taco bout this. I’m a huge taco fan. Crispy cheese, stringy cheese, diced jalapeños and a charred tortilla with a steak from @moyockfarmmarket I have a taco and knife skills class coming up. You learn how to hold a knife….all the basics. Plus we make guacamole and pico de gallo as we learn about cuts and some of the secret chef knife stuff. My brothers and sisters who went to battle night after night. It a tough job it weighs on you and your soul.
