Tegoroczny cel na Hawajach to 🌋 Mauna Kea – najwyższy szczyt Hawajów, wznoszący się na ponad 4200 m n.p.m. Już sama droga na górę robi ogromne wrażenie. Im wyżej się wspinasz, tym mniej przypomina to Hawaje. Znikają palmy i tropikalna zieleń, a krajobraz staje się coraz bardziej surowy i wulkaniczny. Momentami można odnieść wrażenie, że jest się na Marsie albo na Księżycu, a nie na środku Oceanu Spokojnego. To właśnie tutaj, dzięki wyjątkowo czystemu, suchemu i stabilnemu powietrzu, powstały jedne z najważniejszych obserwatoriów astronomicznych na świecie. Naukowcy obserwują stąd odległe galaktyki, narodziny gwiazd, a nawet planety krążące wokół innych słońc. O zachodzie słońca na jego szczycie marzyłam i rzeczywistość przerosła wszystkie moje wyobrażenia🥰 Mauna Kea to także najwyższa góra świata, jeśli mierzyć ją od podwodnej podstawy. 📍Ancient Volcanoes of Mauna Kea 🌋 From above, the slopes surrounding Mauna Kea reveal a landscape covered in old volcanic cones, craters, and deeply weathered lava terrain. Many of these features are cinder and scoria cones, formed when gas-rich magma erupted explosively from smaller vents along the volcano’s flanks. Mauna Kea was built through hundreds of thousands of years of volcanic activity, with its younger summit-stage eruptions producing numerous cones across the upper slopes. As these vents became dormant, centuries of wind, rain, temperature changes, and even Ice Age glaciation began wearing them down. Their softened rims, eroded gullies, and muted colors seen from the air contrast with the sharper forms of younger volcanic terrain.
