CROCKERY

Join us for the private view of ‘Crockery’ on Thursday 11 September 6 - 9 PM—RSVP through link in bio.
Functional furniture in ceramic is a feat, a first, a frontier. The success of these works hinged upon both Lamb’s immunity to deterrence when courting a question of materiality and 1882 Ltd.’s unflinching willingness to push their mastery of ceramics not only to but past its assumed limits. Every element of these works bears the imprint of collaboration, evidence of co-conspirators both daring and undaunted. Crockery presents not only chairs and stools, but a bold statement on craftsmanship and collaboration.

Sophie Dries may not describe herself as a collector but there are pieces she can’t resist.
A peek round her Parisian home confirms it: a squiggly Max Lamb chair here, a colourful Gaetano Pesce vase there. Perhaps most fascinating is the synergy these pieces enjoy with her own designs — freethinking, experimental objects which revel in the alchemy of making.

The result of a creative dialogue between Max Lamb and 1882 Ltd., Crockery is a groundbreaking new series of chairs and stools conceptualised to challenge our inherent understanding of clay’s material and functional possibilities. In all its undertakings, 1882 Ltd. has a firm foothold in the overlap between industrial craftsmanship and innovative design, a positioning they share with Lamb. Under the directorship of Em Johnson, the multi-generational expertise of 1882 Ltd. offers the foundation essential to enable Lamb’s material provocations.

Thankful to our many visitors, friends and family from our Max Lamb carpeted elevator!
His Space Dyed Carpets started in Yorkshire- a rich woolen industry, for a project at Robert Mallet Stevens’ Villa Noailles in Hyères, France. He collaborated with local artisans—scourers, spinners, dyers, and tufters—to create 100 square meters of rugs using 300kg of New Zealand wool yarn. Custom-made for our elevator, these three rugs traveled far- and found a perfect home with us at 89th street! #maxlamb

In this video produced by Dezeen, designer Rachel Griffin (@earnest_studio) discusses designing for aluminium producer Hydro’s 100R exhibition (@shapesbyhydro). 100 R was on show at the Material Matters fair during the 2024 London Design Festival.
Griffin was one of seven designers featured in Hydro’s 100R exhibition, including Max Lamb, Inga Sempé and Philippe Malouin.
Directed and conceived of by Norwegian designer Lars Beller Fjetland, the exhibition challenged the featured designers to make a furniture or lighting piece using soley Hydro’s Circal 100R extruded aluminium.
According to Hydro, Circal 100R is the first aluminium product made entirely from post-consumer scrap that can be mass-produced on an industrial scale.

Salon 94 Design, currently showing — the Max Lamb Inventory, Jay Sae Jung Oh, and Hella Jongerius.
An amazing space, currently filled with boundary pushing pieces from these three artists. Read into the details below 🫶🏼
Max Lamb Inventory —
Inventory, as the title suggests, is a survey of experiments with materials, techniques, and forms that designer Max Lamb has realized over the past seventeen years. Outstanding in breadth and scope, it is an extraordinary opportunity to explore the creative output of a designer known primarily for working one piece at a time. It’s a record of not only how prolific and hardworking Lamb is—and he is both—but of how many different types of materials and production methods he has charged himself with learning and refining over the span of his career to date.
Jay Sae Jung Oh —
Jay Sae Jung Oh’s career began in a moment of mounting alarm. A relatively recent arrival in the USA, she was pursuing her MFA at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, with its famously beautiful Eliel Saarinen–designed campus.
In response to tidal waste, Oh conceived her Salvage series, wrapping jumbled-together found objects in a fine jute cord. The process enacts a sort of reverse archaeology, gradually immuring objects within a mute topology, at once erasing and monumentalizing them. Withdrawn from view yet still more or less recognizable, they serve as stand-ins for things of their general type. In this way, Oh hoped to convey a simple message: with sufficient effort and imagination, rubbish can be redeemed — made not just useful, but drop-dead gorgeous.
Hella Jongerius + Nymphenburg
“Generation T” is an initiative by Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg and designer Hella Jongerius against the waste of valuable resources - both material and human - which are becoming increasingly precious in the process of manufacturing porcelain.
Exhibits available through April 20th, 2024 — this is a must see collection of artwork 🤍
