Every year, more than 2–3 million pilgrims gather here during Hajj, while billions of Muslims worldwide turn their faces toward it five times a day in prayer creating a powerful, unseen connection that unites hearts across continents, languages, and cultures. Maher bin Hamad bin Muaiqil Al-Muaiqili Al-Balawi (born January 7, 1969) is an imam and preacher at the Grand Mosque in Mecca. He holds a doctorate from Umm Al-Qura University in Mecca. The sheikh is known for his melodious voice and masterful recitation of the Holy Quran. He received royal approval to deliver the sermon and lead the prayer on the Day of Arafah at the Namirah Mosque in 1445 AH/2024 CE, becoming the fifteenth preacher of Arafah during the Saudi era. He memorized the Holy Quran and studied at the Teachers’ College in Medina, graduating as a mathematics teacher. He then moved to Mecca to work as a teacher before becoming a student counselor at the Prince Abdul Majeed School in Mecca. He earned his master’s degree in 1425 AH (2004/2005 CE) in the jurisprudence of Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, with a thesis titled “Imam Ahmad’s Jurisprudential Issues According to the Narration of Abdul Malik Al-Maimouni,” from the Faculty of Sharia at Umm Al-Qura University, graduating with distinction.
