When I was a teenager and realized that I wanted to be a doctor, a teacher told me not to bother applying to med school because I wouldn’t get in. She probably had a point lol. I was cutting class a LOT and by the age of 16 or 17 had been to 8 different schools. Not what they tell you is ideal “med school material.” BUT, because I’m delulu and cannot be stopped, and because I was born to a woman who is the embodiment of brave, not only that I applied to med school a few years later, but I applied to Cambridge University and got in to the accelerated medical program which is highly selective and only takes on 18 med students a year. This kind of audacity requires a team of enablers. It was people like Dr. Lynn Paxton, Dr. Joep Lange, Dr. Charles Boucher, and of course my MOTHER who made this impossible dream feel possible. Shout out to all the mentors who tell us we can. Excited to be in conversation with my mentor in front of 115 Stanford students today as they chart their paths forward. And because the big dreaming and imagining of new paths never stops, a big shout out to @zahracomedy who inspires me with my path in comedy and clowning. From med school to clown school: everything is possible.
