Olivier Messiaen was a French composer, organist, and ornithologist. One of the major composers of the 20th century, he was also an outstanding teacher of composition and musical analysis. Pelléas et Mélisande  is an opera in five acts with music by Claude Debussy. The French libretto was adapted from Maurice Maeterlinck's symbolist play of the same name. It premiered at the Salle Favart in Paris by the Opéra-Comique on 30 April 1902; Jean Périer was Pelléas and Mary Garden was Mélisande, conducted by André Messager, who was instrumental in getting the Opéra-Comique to stage the work.It is the only opera Debussy ever completed. #messiaen #debussy #ópera #composer

⬇️ Olivier Messiaen remains one of the most visionary figures of the twentieth century. His music fuses harmonic color, rhythmic cycles from South India, Catholic mysticism, and his lifelong devotion to birdsong. What makes his work so singular is the way these elements feel less like influences and more like a personal cosmology, a complete world where sound becomes a form of revelation. His Quartet for the End of Time was born in one of the darkest settings imaginable, a German prisoner of war camp during World War II. Written for the only instruments available, the piece turns limitation into transcendence. Its premiere in Stalag VIII A, performed for hundreds of prisoners in the cold, is one of the most powerful stories in music history. The work draws from the Book of Revelation and proposes a musical time that stretches, shimmers, and sometimes seems to stop altogether. Even today, the piece feels like an act of spiritual resistance, a reminder that art can create meaning when the world collapses around it. Its slow radiance and ecstatic stillness continue to shape how we think about musical time, vulnerability, and hope. ⚠️ All images and sounds used here are for educational and illustrative purposes only. Sounds from another world👽 It's Uncommon Musical Instrument Awareness Day and we're celebrating with a clip of Cynthia Millar on the Ondes Martenot, an instrument that was invented in 1928! Britannica writes' Oscillating radio tubes produce electric pulses at two supersonic sound-wave frequencies. They in turn produce a lower frequency within audible range that is equal to the difference in their rates of vibration and that is amplified and converted into sound by a loudspeaker. Many timbres, or tone colours, can be created by filtering out upper harmonics, or component tones, of the audible notes.' #LondonSymphonyOrchestra #OndesMartenot #Messiaen #Turangalîla

[BIRTHDAY] 🎂 114 years ago, the path-breaking innovator Oliver Messiaen was born! Messiaen M6 octave displacement 🌋 . Mode 6 is an octatonic scale - center of symmetry is a tritione - notes are B C D E F Fsharp Gsharp Asharp . Modes of limited transposition are symmetrical musical scales, notably defined by composer Olivier Messiaen , that repeat their specific interval patterns after fewer than 12 chromatic transpositions, unlike diatonic scales which offer unique modes for each of the 12 pitches . . #jazzguitar #guitarra #guitar #guitarteacher #messiaen

“O Sacrum Convivium” – like steering a spaceship through honey 🚀🍯 This piece by Olivier Messiaen is unlike anything else. 💫 Spicy chords. 💫 Microscopic tuning. 💫 Tension that hovers in zero gravity. When it starts with 6 sharps – and the second note is already a double sharp – you just know it’s gonna get wild. It’s choral music in slow motion – and one of my all-time favourite a cappella works. 🎙️Live performance by @akademiskkoraarhus , May 2025 #messiaen #osacrumconvivium #akademiskkorårhus #choirlive #choralmasterpiece #20thcenturymusic #spiritualmusic #intonationchallenge #acappellalove #choralinspiration #jonasrasmussen #danishchoir #choralconductor
