An institution in itself, Morphogenesis @morphogenesis.official, led by Sonali @sonali.morphogenesis and Manit Rastogi @rastogi_manit, has been at the nucleus of the journey for many new generations of architects. “We started in 1996 as a two-member team and in the subsequent 28 years have seen it evolve from its humble beginnings in a Delhi garage to a firm with almost 200 professionals,” smiles Sonali as she walks in. Later, Deepanjali joined the team. Graduating from the School of Planning and Architecture in 2003, she walked into Morphogenesis, marking her first and “only” job. “I remember sitting at my desk and suddenly feeling the presence; the studio was abuzz, and I knew at that moment, the boss had arrived. I quickly snuck a look at Sonali before going back to freeze position,” she laughs, recollecting her first day at work. Years later, Deepanjali now also helms Visarg Design Studio @visarg_design_studio, taking pride in designing homes driven by details, allowing herself to be stretched beyond her inclinations to constantly discover new design choices. Having a powerhouse as a mentor has its many advantages, as Deepanjali reaffirms, “My learning from Sonali was beyond architecture. I had the chance to view up-close, a life lived in a way that I truly admired. There was passion for work but also for living,” she says. These two dynamic women, who not only helm two successful practices today but also mirror each other’s passion and determination to create architecture that matters.
