Mount Nelson Afternoon Tea – was it worth the hype? 🍰☕
You told us the @belmondmountnelsonhotel beats the Saxon, so we had to find out for ourselves. The verdict? It’s close.
The setting is stunning (Cape Town bias, guilty 🙋), with 75+ teas to choose from and a cake buffet that had us weak. Beautifully presented, perfectly balanced.
The Saxon wins on the personalised tea experience, but for abundance and that iconic atmosphere, the Nellie holds its own.
At R650pp, it’s the more wallet-friendly option too.

We recently indulged in Afternoon Tea at The Nellie, the iconic Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel, and every moment was simply delightful. From the moment we stepped into the most gorgeous setting, pink tones, surrounded by lush, vibrant gardens, it felt like a luxurious escape
The tea selection was nothing short of extraordinary, a tea sommelier on hand to guide us through over 60 different varieties, leaving us completely spoilt for choice. Every cake, pastry, and sandwich we tried was perfection, each bite a little indulgent moment of joy 🍰
Paired with the soft strains of live piano music, it was a truly luxurious way to spend the afternoon. One of our favourite Cape Town experiences, a place you’ll want to return to again and again, without a doubt 🥂
