Myrtle Beach isn’t for everyone. Here are 5 things you should be OK with before moving here. If #5 bothers you, this probably isn’t your place. 1️⃣ The traffic isn’t what you think. People hear “beach town” and picture quiet roads. Then July arrives. Highway 17, Highway 501, Carolina Forest Boulevard, and Highway 544 can all get backed up during tourist season. Locals quickly learn which routes and times to avoid. 2️⃣ You’re probably not moving to Myrtle Beach. You’re moving somewhere around Myrtle Beach. Many relocators end up in Carolina Forest, Conway, Murrells Inlet, North Myrtle Beach, Surfside, Garden City, Pawleys Island, Longs, or one of the surrounding communities. When people say they’re moving to Myrtle Beach, they’re usually talking about the entire Grand Strand. 3️⃣ The humidity is real. Everybody talks about the beach. Not enough people talk about August. Some days feel like you walked straight into a sauna. The tradeoff is mild winters and outdoor weather most of the year. 4️⃣ Tourism affects everyday life. Restaurants get busier. Roads get crowded. Parking gets harder to find. Certain parts of town feel completely different in July than they do in January. Most locals learn to work with the seasons instead of fighting them. 5️⃣ Myrtle Beach isn’t as cheap as people think. A lot of people still have old Myrtle Beach prices in their head. Those days are gone. Home prices, insurance, and HOA fees have all increased over the years. Many buyers are surprised by what homes actually cost in the areas they want most. Myrtle Beach is a little quirky. A little crowded sometimes. A little misunderstood. But for a lot of people, that’s exactly why they love it. Another day with @acquajet_watersports ☀️ We just cannot get enough! So fun and Andre’ is the best guide! We went through some great areas and little water ways! We saw an alligator, turtles, birds and lots of beautiful trees. This time we left from the river side of Murrells Inlet and rode to and around Sandy Island and parts of Georgetown! So fun!
