Mykolas Alekna is a Lithuanian discus thrower who holds the men’s world record with a throw of 75.56 meters, set in 2024, making him the youngest man ever to break the 75-meter barrier. At just 19, he became the youngest world championships discus medalist and then won gold at the 2022 European Championships, setting a competition record. He claimed silver in the discus at the 2024 Paris Olympics, narrowly missing gold but surpassing his father’s old Olympic record. Competing for Cal, Alekna shattered collegiate and European U23 records, becoming the first U23 athlete to throw over 70 meters. Since his teenage years, Alekna has consistently bested the world’s top throwers and is widely seen as a generational talent redefining men’s discus. #discus #throwing #worldathletics #ishowspeed #ishowspeedclips #edit #olympics #worldchampionship #worldrecord

This is why Mykolas Alekna throws so far — and it starts much earlier than most people think. First, his sweep leg engages early. He picks it up quickly, pushes off the right, and immediately creates separation. That early movement gives the discus time to work instead of getting rushed. Next, he holds the sector extremely well. No over-rotation. His chest, eyes, and head stay aligned, which keeps everything moving cleanly into the front of the circle. Because of that, he lands farther back in the power position. More room to the front means more time to accelerate the discus, not force it. He also catches the high point early, allowing the delivery phase to start sooner and stay smoother through the finish. Finally, his left foot gets down fast. It comes up high but doesn’t hang. Fast foot down equals a better power position and more usable speed. Distance comes from timing and positions, not trying to throw harder. Follow for more technical breakdowns. #ShotPut #discus #TrackAndField
