I post this video every year for Thanksgiving. It typically gets very low engagement, not many views or likes, but I post it anyway. It was the first video I ever posted on Instagram many moons ago. I’m so thankful for these three silly guys, and I hope someday when they’re older that they’re thankful for memories of me making up songs for them. The answer is always YES, and I’ll tell you why. Having all boys, it’s sometimes difficult to find common ground or find things to do together that we both equally enjoy. So anytime my kids invite me to tag along, I can’t seem to resist. Even if I know the real reason for the invitation 😅🤭😏 But truthfully, this time I did set the expectation that I wasn’t buying. And I still got invited 🙌🏼 Spending time with my boys is the best use of my time, and I know I won’t ever regret saying yes to an invite by them. My biggest parenting goal is, and has always been, to have a good relationship with my kids. And now that they are young adults, the stakes feel a little higher. They all have their own lives and are going in their own directions, so it feels like our time together is way more rare. So anytime I hear, “do you want to go with me?” THE ANSWER IS ALWAYS YES. How do you carve out space in your life to spend quality time with your kids/parents? Is it regular coffee dates? Sunday night dinners? Annual vacations? SUNDAY PREACH! I saw this quote the other day and it said “Parent the kids you have, not the kids you want.” I freaking love that quote! There is no such thing as a perfect parent. There is no hand book, and if there was it wouldn’t apply because each child is so different. Since I’m old AF now and can actually offer decent advice ( not that anyone is asking for it.) But, I would say, try not and put your child in a mold. Meaning don’t push them to be something you want them to be because you might be embarrassed of what others think. Who cares what others think? But many parents do. They care more about what their friends will think than what their own child truly needs. Let them fly a bit. Don’t clip their wings. When you clip their wings, it brings them doubt that they can’t do certain things. And they actually can, they just have to believe in themselves and that starts at home.
