Our little adventure last weekend! 🏕️We headed out to a favourite spot of ours that’s tucked away deep in the wilderness. A natural hot springs we’ve been going to for years. The few days leading up to our camping trip, Swavik and I were like kids at Christmas - so excited to prep, plan and pack up our trailer for a getaway. ⛰️ The journey to get there was a distance of about 200km with a small ferry ride inbetween. The final 10km of the journey into the campsite is down a bumpy as hell FSR (forestry service road). It was a LONG day. 😅 Camping with small children is no easy task. We have a 3 year old, and a 10 month old. My 3 year old is going through a major “daddy-only” phase (the rejection is soul-crushing for me) and my 10 month old loves crawling and exploring - and putting anything and everything in her mouth 🪨 🐌 😴There was missed naps, rough nights, early wakes, very tired kids, very tired aldults, big emotions:big meltdowns, lots of rainy weather, yada, yada, yada, and…. 🌿It was worth it. Don’t wait for your hard season to end to go on adventures. Take your kids into nature. Unplug, to recharge. Willingly put yourself into uncomfortable situations to prove to yourself you ARE capable of doing hard things, and you CAN figure it out. Lots of teamwork. Lots of surrendering and letting go of the small stuff. A 40th birthday to remember. 🎉 Day 15 was a Kootenay epic. After a slight detour to Edgewood for some grub, we got back on the GNBR and took in some sweet vistas above Whatshan Lake. After ravaging a rotisserie chicken and some yogurt with blueberries outside the Save On Foods grocery store in Nakusp, we decided to spend the rest of Mat's birthday tackling the grind up Wilson Lake Road. With a warm, dry place to rest our heads as incentive, we kept rolling into the night and found ourselves tucked away in our friends riverside Bunkie, a cool 147 km and 10 hours of riding time into our day. I promised my teenager a mountain biking vacation to a brand new area. Did I deliver? We spent 5 days riding in the West Kootenays of British Columbia focusing on the Arrow/Slocan area around Nakusp. Almost every trail was brand new to us, and we now have an expanded list of annual "must ride trails."
