In Nara, a city not far from Kyoto, Japan, you will find thousands of Sika deer roaming the town. Considered sacred, these deer are protected and their population flourishes thanks to a supplementary diet of hand fed "deer crackers". The deer have a reputation for politely bowing for their crackers, but don't be completely fooled by these dreamy Disney scenes. As gorgeous as it was, we personally didn't feed the deer as we'd seen some get a little "pushy" for their favourite snacks.
It was an incredible behaviour to watch, but if you happen to visit Nara and really want to feed the deer yourself, I suggest waiting to get out of the busy town centre where their numbers are overwhelming. Instead, get yourself up the hill, closer to the wooded areas where everything is a lot more chill and controllable.
