“Why is 10 years of Indian classical dance training not showing up anywhere on your transcript?” If this question bothers you, read on. If you are a middle school, high school, or college student training seriously in Indian classical dance — this message is for you. If you’re a parent wondering how your child’s years of dedication can be recognized academically — this is for you. And if you’re a teacher guiding students who want their dance journey to have structure, visibility, and mainstream relevance — this is for you too. We are DNC Scouts & Guides, a chapter of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts affiliated with UNC Charlotte. I serve as the Director of Dance for DNC Scouts & Guides, and my goal is simple: to professionalize Indian classical dance training in the United States. Our students train rigorously. They study theory. They rehearse for years. They build discipline, scholarship, and leadership skills. That work deserves formal recognition. Through this program, students have a structured pathway to: engage in research and writing, develop leadership initiatives, create meaningful projects, and work toward having their dance training formally acknowledged — even on their transcript. And I’m especially excited that Matrusena is associated with this initiative and supporting this vision. Indian dance is not “just extracurricular.” It is serious training. It is cultural knowledge. It is scholarship. If this resonates with you — as a student, parent, or teacher — I would love to speak with you. DM NHSDA, and I’ll personally share the details. Let’s make your dance count. Thank you @kaustavisarkar for bringing me and @anirban_themusicwala on board to be part of this absolutely pertinent initiative. #dance #matrusena #indiandance #ndeo #nhsda

As #NHSDALoveYourBodyWeek was last week, this Thanksgiving , As a NHSDA Sponsor, I am reminded to be thankful to my body and all the things it does for me as a dancer and a human everyday . I am reminded to show my thanks through positive self talk and always look for what I love in the mirror and not pick it apart. #NHSDALoveYourBodyWeek is the National Honor Society of Dance Arts Campaign promoting body positive dance spaces. As a dancer, we spend hours in the studio staring into these huge floor to ceiling length mirrors. We see every flaw every hair out of place and every short coming. However, these unique traits, we should not see them as a hindrances but rather embrace them as they are things that make us uniquely who we are. this campaign promotes body positive dance spaces through the use of positive selftalk, body positivity, and education for celebrating all the wonderful things our body is due for us each and every day. I am so proud of my @dmo_nhs for a fantastic campaign educating fellow students, promoting body positive rhetoric, and providing fun activities for all of the @dancemolinari Family. Checkout all the fun that occurred this past Saturday with our Pro Students creating with their Mirror Prompt and Bringing those mirror prompts to life through dance.
