Actors often believe mistakes in a self-tape will destroy their chances. In reality, the opposite is often true.
Human communication is messy. Cognitive science shows that real conversation is full of interruptions, overlaps, and unexpected pivots. When an actor accidentally pre-empts a line and then realistically acknowledges it, the moment suddenly becomes human, spontaneous, and watchable.
The worst thing an actor can do is pretend the mistake never happened. The audience can see the chair has fallen over. The craft is not about avoiding potholes, it is about using them.
Some of the most memorable auditions happen precisely because an actor turns a mistake into behavior.

✨ Radiation.
🔥 Fire.
🧠 Real thought.
👂🏽Deep listening.
Excellent advice for all actors and something I work on all the time in my coaching sessions.
Have real thoughts. It seems obvious, right? But you’d be surprised how rare it is in performance. When there are active thoughts underneath the lines, the audience leans in. Watchable actors are thinking actors, not line readers.
And of course listening. Deep listening with your whole body. When you truly take the attention off yourself, your responses are authentic and you become more grounded and present. That level of connection is compelling.
Continue developing your skills by bringing these areas of focus into your daily work.

This acting practice and rehearsal tool is a broadstroke entry point to portraying characters who are thinking based characters.
Practicing the primary functions on their own; removed from a specific role, will sensitize your body as an actor and make your performances sharper when you get an audition or booking.

Movements and actions for actors and humans are always preceded by impulses and sustained by intention until they are cut off by a new series of preceding, acting and sustaining.
Practicing moving in this way gives you grace, builds audience trust and grounds your body and talent in your acting.

My teaching style is grounded.
I work with students to develop awareness of their own emotional attunement; to understand who they are as a person, how they respond, and how they operate in the moment as a human.
I also draw from well established techniques, from Meisner, Laban, Chekhov, Stanislavski to Uta Hagen so that students can build a versatile toolkit.
But technique alone isn’t enough; it’s how we use it, with self-awareness and presence.
My goal is to help actors bring themselves fully to a role, grounded in their own choices, without needing to substitute or trigger real-life experiences.
I emphasise connection and responsiveness: investing in your scene partner, responding to what you see and hear, and building an exchange that feels alive and layered. I focus on strengths first, guiding students to trust their instincts and explore their own emotional intelligence, rather than forcing choices that don’t come naturally.
In essence, I teach actors to understand themselves and bring that awareness to a scene.

Tap into your inner truth. All emotions are valid—joy, pain, betrayal. Don't block them out; use them to connect deeply. #acting #actingtips #emotionalintelligence #actorlife #performance #methodacting #findyourtruth #reelsofinstagram
“Knowing your man” is not enough if you haven’t done your homework.
That’s the trap.
Actors sometimes romanticise instinct and spontaneity, but craft still matters.
Learn the lines.
Understand the stakes.
Know the scene.
Then turn up ready to let it play.
That’s a much better definition of freedom.

How should ACTORS use objects while ACTING.
Objects aren’t props… they are opportunities. 🎭
Many actors hold an object on stage but forget to use it truthfully. A cup, a pen, a bag, a phone — these are not just things in your hand. They are tools that help reveal the character’s inner world.
When you interact with an object, your focus shifts from “how am I acting?” to “what am I doing?” — and that’s where authenticity begins.
A nervous character may keep rotating a ring.
An angry character may slam a file on the table.
A romantic character may gently play with a flower.
The object becomes an extension of the character’s thoughts, emotions, and circumstances. Suddenly, the scene stops looking like acting… and starts looking like life.
But remember one important thing:
Don’t force the object into the scene. Let the situation justify it.
Great actors don’t just hold props.
They live through them.
Next time you rehearse, pick up an object and ask yourself:
Why is my character using this? What does it reveal about them?
That small object might unlock a whole new layer of performance. ✨
One takeaway from an acting coach I’ll never forget:
You can’t plan every moment.
Sometimes you have to let the subconscious take over and trust the work you’ve done.
That’s usually when the scene comes alive.

Acting classes can get weird… and that’s kind of the point. 😅
In the Sanford Meisner repetition exercise, actors repeat simple observations back and forth to stop “performing” and start reacting truthfully to the other person.
• 🎭 It trains real listening: You’re not thinking about your next line. You’re responding to what’s actually happening in the moment.
• 👀 You become hyper aware of behavior: Tone, facial expressions, energy shifts… everything matters.
• 🧠 Your instincts take over: When you stop planning, authentic reactions start to show up.
In today’s video… Liz may have taken the “observe your partner” part a little too seriously. 🦎👁️
Takeaway for actors: Stop trying to be interesting. Start being present. 🎬
