Good morning, friends! Happy Saturday. I have to be honest with y’all. When Amy asked me to go to the needlepoint store with her, I thought she was wasting her money. I never imagined that she would stick with it. I am so proud of her! Not only did she finish that project, but she is now obsessed with needlepointing, and she does such a great job! I walked over to her house last night and had her get her things out so I could video for y’all. Look at her progress! Isn’t she doing great?

OK, so apparently I’m a needlepointer now. or I’m about to find out.
Needlepoint has been all over my feed lately. everybody and their grandmother is stitching, and friends, I felt left out.
it also goes way back for me. when i was dating Jerry at the Naval Academy, his sponsor family the Monks were the real deal. Mrs. Monk always had a canvas going. a pillow, a Christmas ornament, something headed for a frame. she was a true needle artist, and she quilted too, just to make the rest of us feel unproductive.
I’ve been sewing since high school and learned cross stitch forty years ago. But needlepoint? Never touched it. So today I took a little field trip to Waste Knot Needlepoint right here in Arlington, and y’all, it was a bounty. color everywhere, painted canvases stacked like candy.
Now let me be honest with you. This is not a cheap hobby. Every one of those canvases is hand painted by an actual human being, which is genuinely amazing and also explains the price tag. I know there are gentler ways in, so i started small with a darling little notion zipper case. Baby steps people.
Will I be good at it? Unclear. Will it be fun? We’re about to find out together.
