Loved watching this old film capturing some of Cornwall’s superstitions and folklore in action. It shows the famous round houses of Veryan, said to be built without corners so the devil gets dizzy running round trying to find somewhere to hide. Each one has a cross on top for extra protection. In Newlyn, twin girls baptise their new doll at an ancient wishing well carved into the base of a third-century cross, sprinkling water over its head and dropping a pin for luck. At Mên-an-Tol, their mother and grandmother demonstrate old cures for rheumatism and rickets, crawling through the holed stone and rubbing against the standing stones. The biggest Queue in Cornwall for a restaurant- Mackerel Sky, Newlyn It’s a cute fish restaurant walk in a only with small plates around 10 - 15 each plate The scallops with Cornish dukkah and hog’s pudding - cooked to perfection- smoky, rich, and perfectly balanced. That mix of delicate scallop sweetness and savoury pudding is nothing short of inspired The haddock was caught by a local boat which is rare as most fish n chips come frozen in cornwall The batter was thick, and the haddock georgous The grilled John Dory with samphire and capers remains a stand-out—elegant yet heartfelt, like the sea itself on a plate I highly recommend Makeral Sky #newlyn #makeralsky #cornishfood #foodielondon #londonfoodie
