Layer Cake Nine Patch! Sometimes I *really* need to scratch that making itch and not feel too bothered about it. Enter a few things to simplify the process and let me jump in to sewing: precuts and simple blocks. Both of which I adore.
For this I trimmed my 10” squares down to 9” squares (just to make cutting simpler), and then cut (9) 3” squares from each. Mix-and-match and sew and you’ve got an adorable scrappy nine patch quilt in no time! 💁♀️
For one layer cake, you can make 42 blocks. I put mine in a 6x7 grid for an oversized toddler or a lap size quilt at 45”x 52.5”.
With two layer cakes, you could make a 60”x 80” rectangle throw using 80 blocks (arrange in an 8x10 grid) or a 67.5” square throw using 81 blocks (arrange in a 9x9 grid)! So many options!

It’s no secret that the actual “quilting” part of quilting is my LEAST favorite part. I love to piece and the initial sewing of fabrics together, but when I do quilt it myself, I almost always opt for straight line quilting using my walking foot. You might even call me a “speed walker”, but this quilt felt like it took forever. After I had finished doing the vertical lines, I almost said it was fine and didn’t do the horizontal lines, but I persisted and it was totally WORTH IT the additional 2-3 hours 😅 ❤️💚❤️

Started piecing this together around 11 and was done with 14 rows of 12 by 7pm! It helps when you are doing this with friends and hanging out and chatting… because that last row of 12 I did at home last night took me so much longer than all the rest haha
