I was riding through the Moroccan reg, near Rissani, when I met a nomadic Amazigh woman in the middle of the rocky desert.
She invited me to stop for tea. I accepted, and shortly after I met other Amazigh women. We drank tea together and tried to communicate mostly through gestures, a few words and drawings in the sand.
Communication wasn’t always easy, but the atmosphere was magic and there was a genuine willingness to simply spend time together. In the end, sharing time was probably the most valuable part of the whole encounter.
The video ends there, but the story continued: after tea, they prepared couscous and invited me to eat with them.
I also stayed in touch with the Amazigh women I met that day. We still speak regularly and check in with each other to see how everyone is doing.

The world nomad games was really something out of a dream to attend. A celebration of athletics, intercultural dialogue, and preservation of nomadic culture and identity, I consider myself lucky to have attended. People from all over the world gathered in the gorge today to watch musical performances, traditional arts and people from different countries compete in national games.

Wild lions are back in the area and Sirga spent some nights outside while they were in her territory. They are young, nomadic animals and Sirga doesn’t seem to have issues with them so far. If they start becoming territorial, disputes are inevitable and of course we will be there to look after her and make sure she is safe and happy.
