Shopping on a budget while trying to avoid ultra-processed foods is really tricky. 💸 Cheap, convenient snacks are EVERYWHERE, and it’s so easy to grab them. Trying to stick to healthier, whole foods means planning my weekly shop & preparing snacks more carefully. INSTANTLY REMOVE UPF INGREDIENTS INCLUDING SODIUM NITRITES AND DEXTROSE FROM THEIR PEPPERONI PIZZA 🍕 Pepperoni pizza is a favourite in this house, and as much as I want them to eat 'well' I'm here for reducing UPFs where possible rather than aiming to cut out processed food altogether. It's a balance, right?! BUT this hack relieves my mum guilt when I serve pepperoni AGAIN! Ditch the shop bought pepperoni pizza and grab a Margherita instead (choose one with ingredients you would find at home - I balance the ingredients list and the price and find the best one at a price I'm willing to spend - and that the kids will actually eat!) Then go across to the chilled meats and grab a pack of PROPERONI. It's just pepperoni but without the additives - just pork, salt, paprika, spices and sugar - no nasties. Add your properoni to your Margherita and bake as normal. BONUS TIPS: - freeze your leftover properoni and add from frozen next time - frozen veg like sweetcorn and sliced peppers make great additional topping if your fussy eater will allow. Cook briefly in the microwave and drain any excess liquid then scatter over before baking as normal.
