So many blessings from God and so grateful for one another! Blessed Thanksgiving!
The Norbertine Sisters, Catholic nuns within the Norbertine Order, with communities in Europe and the U.S. (including California), are known for their nightly “Motherhood Hour.”
They wake at midnight to pray for mothers for an hour every night, offering them spiritual support and strength during the long and often sleepless nights. The sisters do this to remind mothers that we are never alone and to honor the sacrifice of raising small children.
I was raised Catholic and though I no longer practice this gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes. How many nights have all of us spent up every 20 minutes consoling a baby who just wouldn’t settle? Feeling like the world’s biggest failure, or like we must be doing something totally wrong. Feeling like we are the only ones on earrh awake.
Thank you to the sisters for reminding us we are never alone in those wee hours, and that we are doing the most important work.
I first saw this on TikTok months ago and finally took some time to look into it, and it’s true. This season felt like the perfect time to share for those who didn’t know! If you’re up right now, we see you. Drop a heart to let other moms know we’re all in this together ❤️

The Norbertine Sisters awake at midnight to pray for the mothers who are up in these early hours of the morning with their children. It is so beautiful to know that you are not alone in the druthers of those constant wake ups especially with an infant.
I’m sure that Mary and Elizabeth enjoyed rejoicing together and bearing the burdens that come with pregnancy and childbirth with one another—they knew they were not alone.
I hope you would take a moment to experience the wonder and awe of Christ incarnate with a friend in these final days of Advent.

First day doing psych evals at a Norbertine cloistered convent… and I’m undone.
This place—this life—is like a secret garden. Hidden. Set apart.
But the fragrance of their love is unmistakable. These women live a life not marked by noise or striving, but by stillness, surrender, and supernatural joy.
The world doesn’t often see it. But this is the beating heart of the Church.
A quiet pulse of love that sustains more than we realize.
It’s heaven touching earth.
And I can’t believe I get to witness it.

It’s true. They’re called the Norbertine Sisters and they’re cloistered nuns in California.
They wake up every night, usually around midnight, and pray for an hour straight specifically for mothers and intercede for moms dealing with the difficulties and exhaustion of motherhood. The nuns intentionally wake up in the middle of the night for this hour of prayer because this is when many moms are up with their small children.
So the next time you’re awake with burning, bleary eyes, answering cries and pacing dark, empty floors while begging a crying baby to please go back to sleep — just know that there’s a group of cloistered nuns who are awake every night when you are and they’re specifically praying for you.
See, mama? You really are not alone.

First priest blessings with Fr. Gerard 🙏
Father was ordained a Norbertine @st.michaelsabbey on June 29, 2024, coming to us at the Shrine in August 2024. Pray for him!
What a gift it was to have a priest with us @ SEEK in Salt Lake City @focuscatholic
The Fraters ringing our abbey bells to announce the joyous feast of Easter! The white Norbertine habit is a beautiful symbol of the angels of the Resurrection who were the first to announce the good news of the risen Christ!
