🧊At the end of the last Ice Age, powerful glacial meltwater carved its way through the rock, slowly creating the dramatic cliffs and winding river you see today.
The result is a breathtaking canyon with steep moss-covered cliffs up to 100 meters high and a turquoise river flowing through the bottom. Over thousands of years, erosion continued to sculpt the landscape, creating one of Iceland’s most surreal natural wonders.
The best part? You don’t need a long hike. From the parking area it takes only about 5–10 minutes to reach the first viewpoints, and a scenic path along the edge reveals different angles of the canyon ⛰️
📍 Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon, South Iceland
