Another free camp option if you’re looking for an overnighter when crossing the Nullabor. The old telegraph station has the old ruins and jetty to check out. 12km to the east to the South Australian boarder, it’s a great free camp option. There is a paid caravan park too if that’s more your jam, but who doesn’t love a peaceful free camp like this! Located about 10kms west of Cocklebiddy. It’s an easy 1km drive from the highway. Murra-el-Elevyn Cave, is a significant limestone cave famous for its unique geological features and biodiversity. Part of the Nullarbor Plain, it boasts impressive stalactites and stalagmites formed over thousands of years. The cave is also a habitat for various bat species, making it ecologically important. It attracts speleologists studying karst formations and underground ecosystems, offering a natural environment for exploration. At about 250,000 km2, the Nullarbor is the largest block of limestone, or karst (limestone characterised by caves and underground drainage) on Earth, raised from the sea 3 million years ago. Another big day under the belt we actually ended up continuing on after the Bunda cliffs for a few more hours as we forgot about the time difference and gaining 3 hours 😅 so we ended up doing closer to 13hours We wanted to get updated photos of the kids at the Nullarbor roadhouse but the flies were so bad we decided to not even bother taking them out of the truck. We crossed the Nullarbor similar time last year and it’s crazy how different the scenery (a lot greener and wetter) and the flies have been next level! We barely had any last year!
