Mentally still somewhere in Kyoto 🇯🇵 Sitting in warm onsen water with absolutely nothing to do 🧖🏼‍♀️ This spa is located in the traditional @hotel_the_mitsui_kyoto #japan #onsen #visitkyoto #japantravel
Dark stone, pools of light and reflections that make it difficult to tell where the water ends and the architecture begins. A place that deserves a blank afternoon in your itinerary. Comment “KYOTO” and we’ll send you our full Kyoto guide, with this onsen and the other places worth knowing.
📍草津温泉 / Kusatsu Onsen A hot spring town straight out of a Ghibli movie. ♨️✨ The rising steam and nostalgic streets create a truly magical atmosphere.
One of Japan’s most iconic hot spring towns, known for its nostalgic Taisho-era atmosphere. Lined with charming wooden ryokan and glowing gas lamps along the Ginzan River, Ginzan Onsen feels like stepping into a timeless story. Each season brings a different kind of beauty, from peaceful daytime strolls to magical evenings illuminated by warm lights.
At Kusatsu Onsen in Gunma, there’s a traditional practice called Yumomi (湯もみ)-a unique way of cooling extremely hot spring water using large wooden paddles instead of adding cold water. The paddles are moved rhythmically through the water, traditionally accompanied by songs passed down through generations. Today, you can still watch this famous Kusatsu tradition being performed. ♨️✨ 📍 Kusatsu Onsen, Gunma, Japan Would you add this to your Japan itinerary? 🇯🇵 #kusatsuonsen #yumomi
