These are the dumps and this is where a lot of people get their first taste of opal. When miners work underground, all the mullock gets blown up and dumped out here. Most of it’s just dirt and sandstone… but every now and then, a bit of colour gets missed. That’s where noodling comes in. Families, kids, tourists, old-timers, everyone’s had a scratch through the dumps at some point. You don’t need heavy machinery, just patience, good eyes, and a bit of luck. Plenty of small stones have been found out here over the years. Nothing easy about it though - you still earn it. We Gouged Red on Black from the Corcoran Opal Fields ⚡️ On the search for rare red on black nobby opal in the Corcoran Opal Fields. 70 feet underground, digging by hand like the old timers. We gouged out this little fistful of rocks and were lucky enough to pull red and blue on black. This parcel is now available. Authentic. Rare.
