Hostels aren’t scary I promise!! Where’s your favorite hostel?!
Five reasons you should stay in a hostel when you travel
✨follow along to see my adventures
1️⃣ you will make so many new friends. (This is an easy one!) To everyone who asks me if it is difficult to make friends in a hostel, I promise you it is far easier than it ever was at school or university. The majority (>90%) of people in hostels are of the same mindset; looking to connect with other fun and interesting people.
2️⃣ the people you meet in hostels will most definitely change your perspective on life. More often than not we live in a bubble - a work bubble, a friendship circle, an exercise class where we see the same people every week. Escaping these bubbles even for a short while will show you very quickly that there are many alternate ways to live. It will remind you that you have agency over your life.
3️⃣ it deprioritises luxury and focuses your mind more on experiences. Hostels aren’t for everyone, but for me personally I have found that staying in cheap accommodation has really refocused my travels towards the things that matter to me - experiences. There is little to do in the room so more of my energy goes into socialising in the common room and getting out exploring quicker!
4️⃣ it changes your attitude when it comes to needs and wants. Packing light and staying in budget accommodation has changed my list of ‘needs’. I really don’t need much in life to be happy, and yet it is easy to fall into the trap of thinking we ‘need’ more all the time.
5️⃣ you build confidence and socialising skills quickly. I would consider myself pretty shy during school and university but solo travel has really changed that. When I tell you I can literally talk to anyone! This skill has also valuably contributed towards other aspects of my life.
A little about me: I have just turned 25 and about six months ago I realised I am not fundamentally happy with who I am or where I am career wise so have begun on a journey to reinvent & redirect my life. This account documents that. Travel has long been a priority of mine and so while I figure out my next steps I am trying to see as much of the world as possible.

I’ve seen both sides — as a guest + staff for the last 9 years, and trust me, a few small things can completely change your experience:
✨ Thinking it’s just a bed
You’re sharing a room. With strangers.
Check reviews!!!! → they tell you the vibe (social vs quiet) way more than photos or classification on hostelworld. It might be the greatest hostel but if you’ve the quiet type… don’t be surprised when you get to a party hostel
✨ Not choosing the right room type
If you’re a solo female traveler, remember mixed dorm = shared with men too.
Sometimes paying a little extra for a female dorm is worth the peace of mind.
✨ Not bringing the basics
Padlock, earplugs, sleep mask.
You might not need them… until you that dude next to you is snoring as a bear and then you really do.
✨ Not talking to staff
If something feels off — say it.
We don’t always see what’s happening inside rooms, but we can help.
✨ Avoiding hostel activities
This is literally the easiest way to meet people.
Dinners, walking tours, games — just join one.
✨ Overplanning everything
Hostel life is spontaneous.
Leave space for random plans — they’re usually the best ones.
✨ Forgetting awareness ≠ fear
Solo travel (even as a woman) can feel very safe — just stay aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts.
Hostels aren’t perfect… but they’re where some of the best travel stories begin 🤍
