One of the first steps toward a healthy pelvic floor — whether you’re having symptoms or not — is awareness. Many people have never actually noticed what their pelvic floor does when they try to engage it… or when they try to let it go. If you’re sitting comfortably, you can gently explore: • what it feels like to lightly contract • what it feels like to release • whether those two sensations feel distinct or not There’s no need to force anything or “do it right.” This isn’t about performance — it’s about noticing. Awareness comes before change. 🌱 #pelvicfloor #pelvicfloorhealth #pelvichealth #bodyawareness #nervoussystemhealth #paineducation #womenshealth

When our nervous system is getting signals that we need to prepare for a threat, we unconsciously hold our body ready to attack, to run, or to hide. Although that’s good in an emergency, if we’re moving like that all day, it’s going to take a toll on our breath and our posture. When the diaphragm can’t expand, and we are shallow breathing, our pelvic floor muscles can’t move through full range of motion. Full range of motion ➡️ the power of our pelvic floor to fully contract and fully relax ➡️ effective elimination, enjoyable intimacy, and robust organ protection. Limited pelvic floor range of motion may lead to bladder or bowel leaking, intimacy challenges, uncomfortable pressure or pelvic pain. Pelvic floor challenges are common, but not normal. • 25% of women report some type of pelvic floor dysfunction • 32% of births are C-sections, which can cause significant pelvic floor issues • The US spends more than $12 billion annually on urinary incontinence treatments alone • 16% of men report pelvic floor dysfunction • 50% of people who’ve given birth report pelvic floor issues Although these problems may feel private and difficult to talk about, the impact they can have on your daily life is real.

How to correctly contract your pelvic floor (AKA “do a Kegel”) Most people are doing pelvic floor exercises wrong and that can make symptoms like leaking, prolapse or pelvic pain worse. Here’s the correct way ✨ Relax your jaw, belly and glutes first ✨ Inhale and let the pelvic floor soften and widen ✨ Exhale and gently lift the muscles around the vagina and anus like you’re holding in wind and wee ✨ Think lift and hold whilst relaxing your bum/tummy/inner thighs ✨ Keep breathing try not to no brace or bearing down 🚩 If you feel pain, tension, bulging, or can’t fully relax between contractions, stop.
