U moim ogrodzie rosną odmiany Dark Towers z lekko fioletowymi kwiatami i niższa Onyx and Pearls. Niebawem towarzyszyć im będzie strzelista liatra kłosowa.

What’s your favorite hummingbird attracting plant? 🪻
Penstemons are native wildflowers that hummingbirds naturally recognize and rely on. Their tubular blooms match the shape of a hummingbird’s bill and provide plenty of nectar. Many more Hummingbird plants to come.
Thank you for being here! 🙌

Build a beautiful yard that actually works with Colorado 🌱💧
Beardtongue (Penstemon) is a native Colorado plant that thrives in our dry climate—meaning less watering, lower maintenance, and long-lasting color. If you’re looking to create a water-wise, drought-tolerant landscape, this is one of the best plants you can add. Perfect for homeowners in Aurora and Denver who want to save water without sacrificing a great-looking yard.

Brazos penstemon is a Texas native that is also known as Gulf Coast penstemon. In spring, tall flower spikes are lined with pinkish lavender flowers. Occasionally in fall, it has a light re-bloom.
This is Penstemon tenuis and grows usually in shade with moist clay, sand or loamy soil. It is a great pollinator plant. In my central Texas garden, this is the hardiest penstemon I grow. It is easy care and low maintenance.
The common name for the Penstemon genus is beardtongue. That is a strange name, right. But, botanical and common names are typically selected for particular characteristics or uses of the plant. On most all penstemons there are hairs on the lower petal of the flower. So there you have it – beardtongue!
There are over 250 types of Penstemon that are native to North America. This of course means that not all beardtongues have the same growing requirements.
Growing tips for Brazos penstemon:
🌱Divide plants every 3-4 years
🌱Deadhead flowers to encourage rebloom

Penstemon cuttings, so easy!
Penstemon cutting are so easy that anyone can do it!
First take a stem and cut each section just below a pair of leaves, each piece should be about 6-7 cm long, take of the lower leaves. Dip in some honey to help the cuttings take root then insert around the edge of a small pot, make sure the potting mix is well drained. Keep the cutting moist but not wet and place in a sheltered spot. The cutting should take root in a few weeks. Once they have taken root pot each cutting in to it own small pot, fertilise to get the cutting going, once big enough plant in the garden or give away to gardening friends!

Bye for now

Joe gives us some info on one of his favorite native plants, Penstemon spectabilis (Showy Penstemon), planted recently at our most recent restoration project on Park Dale Ln. This is one of the many native plants that are now providing habitat for pollinators like native bees, butterflies & hummingbirds - where before, this entire slope was a pollinator desert covered in invasive iceplant.
For more information about this restoration, find the original video on Park Dale Ln. in our feed!

Time to trim back your Penstemon
As spring arrives, cut back last year’s stems to just above the new growth at the base of the plant. This helps encourage strong, bushy growth and plenty of flowers later in the season.
A quick tidy now keeps your border looking fresh and healthy

Get a much more fuller and in control salvia, penstemon or hardy perennial by giving it a bit of a chop back. By doing this in spring you’ll encourage thicker side shoots which will bring on more flowers too.
