A Letter to the Person Who Is Grieving Their Dog Right Now: 🌈
I know your heart feels broken in a way words can’t explain. The house feels quieter, the routines are empty, and the love that once filled every corner seems missing.
You are not alone. So many of us have walked this same road. We know the way your chest tightens when you see their favorite spot, the way your eyes fill when you call their name by habit, the way it feels impossibly heavy to take away their bed just to vacuum up the last of their hairs. For some, it may take a month before you can move anything that was theirs and for others, those things will always stay.
There are some things you’ll never part with, and that’s okay. For me, I still have Scout’s beautiful beds, which Archie now curls up in, and his infamous “Free Hugs” bandana. They’re reminders that his love is still woven into my life.
Grief like this is heavy only because the love was so deep. That love doesn’t disappear, it lives on in your memories, your kindness, and the quiet moments where you still feel them near.
Please be gentle with yourself. One day, the memories that sting will bring a smile again. A love like theirs never truly leaves us.
In honor of Scout and all the dogs we’ve loved and lost, tell me your pet’s name and the one thing you’ll always remember them for.

Grief and loss, grief support, pet loss community, rainbow bridge, Labrador retriever
Why does pet loss feel so lonely… even when people are around you?
Because not everyone understands the depth of pet loss grief
When you lose a pet, you’re not just losing an animal
You’re grieving a soul connection, a daily presence, unconditional love
And when others say
“it was just a dog”
“you can get another one”
It can make your grief feel unseen, unsupported and even invalidated
But here’s the truth
Pet grief is real grief
There is a physiological response to grief
Your nervous system is adjusting
Your body is searching for the presence that once grounded you
Your routines, your energy, your emotional state all shift
This is why coping with pet loss can feel overwhelming
This is why grieving a pet can feel isolating
This is why you feel like no one truly understands
Because many people haven’t experienced the depth of love you shared
But you are not alone in this
Pet loss support matters
Being seen in your grief matters
Having a space where your love is honored matters
This is why I created my 4 Week Pet Loss Grief Support Group Mentorship
A space for:
• Pet loss support and grief healing
• Understanding the emotional and physical impact of grief
• Feeling connected to your pet again
• Being held in a community that truly understands
You don’t have to carry this alone
You don’t have to silence your grief
You don’t have to “move on” before you’re ready
First session starts in May. Link is in the bio and on website for sign up. Do something for yourself that will have incredible impact in all the years to come. Your pet wants you to continue life with joy and love.
As she grows older, these moments are so special to me.
Some days the fear of losing her sneaks up.
I can’t stop time… but I can hold her close over and over.
I am thankful for the special time we had together today, on the water.
If you’ve ever loved a pet this much, and feared losing them, or have lost them, you are not alone. 💛

Making end of life decisions is heartbreaking 💔. Rationally, we know what has to be done when everything indicates that there is no quality of life. However, we still can question ourselves. 😢
Post loss, there often is a lot of question asking that comes into the Grief space. 😔
🌻 Maybe I should have done....
🌻 Did I miss something....
🌻 I shoulda waited another couple of days to see if things changed....
🌻 If only I had done that test, maybe there was something underlying that could have been treated....
This question asking is normally on a search to try and put some sense and order into your loss. Often, the question asking is trying to help you process such a profound loss, but is it really helping you.... 🤔
Most times, it's the Grief talking within this narrative. There is never a right time to say goodbye. We make end of life decisions with the information we have at the time. 💔
Love is always at the forefront of everything, always. End of Life decisions are made because we're trusted by our beloved to make sure they're transitioned in the calmest, safest way possible and to gift them peace with no more pain and suffering. Love always lives! 💖 🦋

If you’re asking “How will I know when it’s time? I see you.
And I promise you’re not alone in this.
The HHHHHMM Quality of Life scale is one of the many tools we use to help pet parents make this decision with love and intention.
This scale can help you take a thoughtful, loving look at your dog’s wellbeing:
Hurt – Are they in pain? Can it be managed with medication or care?
Hunger – Are they eating enough to stay healthy and strong?
Hydration – Are they drinking and staying hydrated on their own?
Hygiene – Can they stay clean and comfortable without distress?
Happiness – Do they still enjoy life—snuggles, walks, toys, YOU?
Mobility – Can they move around without constant falling or frustration?
More good days than bad – This one says it all. Are their good days still outnumbering the bad?
Sometimes I’ll suggest keeping a journal with just good day / bad day written out if everything else is too overwhelming.
It’s not the only tool we use. (I also recommend @petlosscommunity - an incredible community I’ve cofounded where you can seek group or 1:1 support) But it’s one that helps make the invisible visible during an incredibly difficult time.
💬 Drop “LINK” in the comments and I’ll send the HHHHHMM scale + more resources via DM.
