How to plant pineapple
Pineapples have seeds! Believe it or not 😃 and you probably have eaten hundreds of them. Not every pineapple has seeds, in my experience it’s a 50/50 chance to find them. As you can see they are not easy to locate. Honestly this is my first time planting the seeds because it is the SLOWEST method to grow pineapples, no wonder we don’t hear about them often. Never throw away the head of the pineapple. Today I share with you my easy propagation method by rooting pineapple heads. Make sure they have rooted nicely to ensure fast growth and fast production. Unlike common belief, pineapple heads can take one year to fruit though more often between one and two years. These plants will produce their own children plants which will produce even faster, in less than a year. I say this from my own experience not speculation. There are many variables that may slow or fasten production. Best soil: Sandy black soil with good drainage ✅ Here’s an idea, do you know how many Pineapple heads juice shops and many other establishments throw away daily? 🤔 there you have it. Abundance is already here you just have to tap into it. Remember that if you plant today, you harvest tomorrow! #pineapple #piña #permaculture #homegrown #gardening

I was taking an inventory of our pineapple patch when my wife @sarahmilliganinboca caught me geeking out. This year's yield will be low with only 6 of 31 plants producing fruits. After last year's harvest, I split the plants apart so the garden's layout would be more even. It will pay off in the long run though. Pineapple Facts: • It takes 18-36 months for a single plant to produce just one fruit. The plant will eventually grow into a bush with many "heads", and will begin to produce fruits at a faster pace over time. (That's why splitting them is a longterm strategy.) • You can grow new pineapple plants by simply twisting off the ripe fruit's green crown and placing it in the soil. (That's how I started most of my plants.) • The pineapple plant is the only fruiting plant in the Bromeliad family and originates in tropical South America. (I grow other bromeliads but just for their pretty looks.) • The zing/tingle you feel in your mouth when you eat pineapple is actually caused by an enzyme called bromelain, which causes your tissues to breakdown a little. That's what makes pineapple juice a good tenderize for marinating meats. Plus, the sugars in the juice caramelize during cooking, which goes great with savory meat flavors. Carnitas tacos, anyone? That garden also has eggplants 🍆, Tulsi basil, and Everglades cherry tomatoes 🍅 growing in the pineapple 🍍 patch. The eggplants are grown seasonally, while the Tulsi basil and and Everglades cherry tomatoes grow wild all year and sprout up throughout our property. We used to grow over 50 varieties of edible plants on our property a few years ago but have scaled back to about 20 varieties since we don't have time to farm as much nowadays. Do you live in Boca Raton and want to grow some edible plants? Reach out and ask me how. I like helping others turn their landscapes into food forests. - Matt Milligan 561-325-2323 I'm a Realtor with a green thumb. #bocaraton #ediblegarden #pineapple #florida #goals
