The pink triangle didn’t begin as a symbol of pride. Under the Nazi regime during the Holocaust, men accused of being homosexual were forced to wear a pink triangle in concentration camps so guards and prisoners could identify them. Many were imprisoned under Paragraph 175, a German law that criminalized homosexuality. Decades later, LGBTQ+ activists reclaimed the symbol as a reminder of persecution and resilience. History doesn’t just live in textbooks. Sometimes it lives in symbols. #HistoryFacts #DidYouKnow #lgbtq #hiddenhistory #queerhistory
Stringent rules on being a Jew, but for a woman, you must “committ.”#lgb #lgbt
HOT TAKE. You do not have to use trauma or pain to help justify your identity and to advocate as to why you are allowed to take up space and exist. The LGBTQ community have signiciantly higher chances of being exposed to discrimination, hate and micro-aggressions, and that is the reality of what life can hold as a queer person. Violence against the community can be understood as a systematic issue, and we cannot forget that we are definitely not where we need to be when it comes to pride and equal rights around the world. Hate speech, rhetoric and harassment are what a lot of people navigate. That is a reality. And- Queer Joy is the unapologetic celebration of authenticity, euphoria and resilience within the community, in the duality of these realities that exist. The folks of Stonewall, Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, pioneering transgender activists and drag queens, folks of colour led and maintained the uprising of the militant LGBTQ+ liberation against oppression and marginalization. They fought for the generations after them to be able to exist in queer joy, and as much as their legacy is important to continue remembering and honouring, have given us a version of resistance and resilience to experience joy in spite of queer pain and violence. We do not have to ‘earn’ our place in the community, to prove the badge of trauma that many of those before us have had to carry for us to exist. Our queerness is not dependent on the parameters of hate or trauma we’ve endured. We are so much more than folks who carry pain, wounds of rejection, or who carry the weight of stricken violence. We do not have to identify with trauma to belong. You already belong with it, and without it. . . . #therapy #mentalhealth #lgbtq #queer #psychoeducation

Our Dyke Histories is a podcast about lesbian history. Making love, making trouble, making community—all of it. Our most recent episodes detail the lesbian landscape of the 1970s. Listen wherever you get your podcasts. Gay USA was the first feature-length documentary by and for LGBTQ+ folks. The footage is from June 26, 1977–only four days after Robert Hillsborough was followed into his home and ki||ed in San Francisco by homophobes. Anita Bryant was on her anti-gay crusade in Florida. At the 1977 Gay Freedom Parade, our community and allies gathered and celebrated one another in a demonstration of joy and resistance. No matter what, we show up for each other. You follow your fear, I’ll follow my heart. Bressan Jr. died from AIDS ten short years after he made this film. #lesbian #queer #adriannelenker
America’s Agenda 🇺🇸 They call it a “gay agenda”… But if it looks like this— Say gay. Protect trans kids. Read banned books. Teach all history. Show love. Then maybe it’s not an agenda at all… Maybe it’s just a reminder— that somebody loves you, and everyone deserves to feel that. #AmericasAgenda #HumanAgenda #SomebodyLovesYou #LoveIsLove #ProtectTransKids #TeachTruth

Queer individuals have always played a significant role in history, shaping the narrative of humanity by living our culture from the margins. So much of our art, our philosophy, and our overall society stems from the creativity of marginalized communities. By demonizing and erasing these communities, we end up erasing their contributions and, in turn, erase parts of ourselves. Recognizing and celebrating these contributions is essential for developing a more clear and inclusive understanding of our shared history. #queerevolution #queerhistory #erasure #marginalizedcommunities #queerculture
