In Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, the first time we see Jack Sparrow, he’s standing on top of a small boat that’s slowly sinking. As it goes down, he calmly sails it right up to the dock and steps off at the exact moment it disappears beneath the water… like it was all part of the plan. One of the most iconic character introductions ever. In just a few seconds, you get everything. Confident, lucky, slightly ridiculous… but somehow always landing on his feet. The first time I watched that scene, I had goosebumps. I knew instantly this was going to be a great movie. And today, at Shanghai Disneyland, on the Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure ride, I felt that same goosebumps again. With the wind, the water, the movement… it felt like I was inside the scene. Not watching it, but part of it. This is the largest Pirates of the Caribbean ride in the world.
